I'm Back

Well, as it says on the tin: I'm back.

It's been about 3 months since my last post - and I'm not gonna lie, it has been a rough few weeks and I am still not comfortable talking about why it was rough. Sure, there have been ups, but all of them were escapes from life rather than moving my own life forward; I have Alex, Stephen and Stephen for all they did for me when I was struggling and needed an escape and/or support.

But now is the time to move forward with my life.

I've moved into a room that a friend had spare and I was fortunate to visit my friend at the right time when he was looking for a housemate. It came with a bed and a side table - one of the Stephens hooked me up with an Ikea haul and it immediately felt like I had my own little section of the world - something that I didn't have in the last three months. The lack of my own space and security of where I was living did affect my employment and capabilities to find employment. I'll explore this in a blog post later on utilising Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory (this is a business theory blog after all).

Also, this required some change as well - and what does change require? Change management. Well, more that I wonder if I apply some change management theory to my life, will it allow me to build what I want faster with a smoother transition - or has it already happened?

You may be thinking it's sounding much more like a personal blog than a business theory blog. Well, I'll let you know something - one of the taglines that I came up with for this blog was “If business is personal, then this is a personal blog". Sure, might be a little cliche (and most likely why I went against using it in the first place) but it's something that I recognised early in my Masters program - business management is about being a good leader, and a good leader treats people like people or, more precisely, how they themselves would like to be treated if they were in the other person's shoes.

So, my blog schedule will be dialled back until I get into the swing of things. One post a week. Might be about business theory and development, leadership or even graphic design. I have a few projects in mind - a A0 wall planner and some t-shirt designs and now that I've moved away from the expensive Creative Cloud suite and seeing if the Affinity suite is suitable, there'll be a few things I know I’ll have to say and there’ll be a full review.

Anyway - I just want to reiterate how thankful I am to everyone who sent kind messages, reacted to my facebook posts and sent their support from afar when I needed it. It's one lesson that I think everyone should recognise - there is more support out there for you than you think there is - and all you have to do is ask or reach out.
